FAZILKA HONOURS ‘SAVIOURS OF FAZILKA’


Jaipur, 17 December .

            People of Fazilka paid a befitting tribute to the ‘Saviours of Fazilka’ aka soldiers of Indian Army who made supreme sacrifice during Indo-Pak War of 1971 to save the town from falling in Pakistani hands. 

To commemorate Swarnim Vijay Varsh 50th Anniversary, ‘Vijay Diwas’ was celebrated to pay tributes to the brave hearts who laid down their lives to defend the motherland on 16 & 17 Dec 2021. The event was co-hosted by Chetak Corps/ Amogh Division and the ‘Shahedon ki Samadhi’ trust, an honorary civilian body of prominent residents of Fazilka.

 

            Two days of celebrations of Vijay Diwas included multiple events organized by Indian Army and citizens forum of Fazilka. On 16 Dec 21 Light and Sound Show was Organized by the Indian Army to bring alive the battlefield of 1971 War in Fazilka Sector. 


A cycling Expedition by team of  Sada Vijayee Engineer Regiment undertaken from Jaipur to Fazilka covering a distance of 508 kms over five days was flagged In on Dec 17 at Fazilka. Sada Vijayee Engineer Regiment was deployed in Defence of Fazilka sector during the 1971 War and forms an integral part of the celebrations every year. The cycling team reached out to Vetrans, motivated the youth at various schools & colleges enroute.

 

            The grand culmination of ‘Vijay Diwas’ event took place on 17 Dec 21 at ‘Afaswala War Memorial’ which is a unique monument revered as a shrine by the local community. Event included Wreath laying at the War Memorial by senior officers of Indian Army and state functionaries to pay homage to the martyrs.
