Chandigarh, July 19. A tragic incident occurred on 08.07.2022 in Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, Chandigarh
whereby a tree fell causing injuries to students. A one member inquiry committee headed by Justice (Retd.)
Jitendra Chauhan was constituted to ascertain the facts of the case and fix responsibilities including remedial
actions to be taken.
Today research team from Forest Research Institute Dehradun visited Chandigarh and interacted with Justice
Chauhan. Justice visited the Carmel convent school with the team and interacted with the management and
teachers. Further, for the scientific management of trees, the team has decided to study issues related to plant
pathology, entomology and will have ultrasonic study to find out the extent of hollowness in any standing
tree.
The general public is requested to give their valuable suggestions in this regard to preservation of the trees
so that this kind of incidents can be averted. The suggestions can be given in person to Justice (Retd.)
