With the purchase of maize at the rate of Rs 1870 per quintal on support price in the state and the establishment of a processing center in Kondagaon, farmers have started getting better prices for their produce.

This has resulted in sharp increase in the area under maize. After getting permission from the centre, preparations are in full swing to set up a plant for the production of ethanol at Kondagaon Maize Processing Center.

In the last Rabi season 2020-21, farmers had cultivated maize in 93 thousand 200 hectares in the state, which has now been increased to one lakh 46 thousand 130 hectares in the current Rabi season. The increase in the area under maize by about 53,000 hectares in a year is a record in itself.

Earlier, maize cultivation was done only in 680 hectares of land in the districts of Bilaspur division, which has increased drastically to 19 thousand 662 hectares today.
