JODHPUR’S MECHANISED INFANTARY BATTALION CELEBRATES KHINSAR DAY



 

Jodhpur, , 7 December.The Jodhpurs Mechanised Battalion holds the proud distinction of being the oldest battalion of the Indian Army. The Battalion celebrated its Golden Jubilee of Battle Honour ‘KHINSAR’ and Theatre Honour ‘SINDH’ of 1971 War on 05 Dec 2021.

 

            During the Indo-Pak War 1971, (OP CACTUS-LILY), the Battalion fought gallantly in the Barmer Sector of the Thar Desert.  The Battalion was tasked to capture Khinsar, an important communication centre with an Advance Landing Ground situated approximately 30 kilometers inside Pakistan territory.

 

            Notwithstanding the biting cold, gallant soldiers of the battalion launched a daring attack on enemy positions and were able to capture Khinsar by last light on 05 December 1971. During the operation, Pakistan Army suffered huge losses in terms of soldiers killed and large amount of arms & ammunition was captured.

 

            The Battalion was conferred with Battle Honour ‘KHINSAR’ and Theatre Honour ‘SINDH’, for its gallant action during India Pakistan War-1971. For this operation, soldiers of the Battalion were awarded three Sena Medals and three Mention-in-Despatches.

 

            To mark the occasion, War Veterans & Veer Naris were felicitated and homage was paid to the bravehearts who made supreme sacrifice for the nation upholding the rich traditions of Indian Army.
